LP Deal Review | Aspen Funds | 51 Upstream Energy Fun VII

In this episode of our Deal Review Series, Ben Fraser from Aspen Funds presents their 51 Upstream Energy Fund VII deal to our LP panel: Jim Pfeifer, Adam Cranmer and Pascal Wagner.

The LP Panel asks questions like:

  • Do policy shifts and ESG incentives under the new administration change oil & gas supply/demand and capital flows?
  • How will OPEC’s decisions impact the fund, and what’s your commodity-price hedging approach?
  • What are Aspen vs. Mahajer’s roles, and how do you vet/operators to mitigate fraud and operational risk?
  • Track record: which funds haven’t returned capital yet, what was the worst deal, and what did you learn?
  • What’s your sourcing “edge” (discounts/off-market access), and how will you execute exits without forced sales at year 10?

About the Deal

Aspen Funds presents 51 Upstream Energy Fund VII, a $75MM+ diversified oil & gas fund. We invest in producing wells for current cash flow (PDP) and new drilling acreage (PUD) across multiple basins. The Fund focuses on non-operating working interests (NOWI) and overriding royalty interests (ORRI) to reduce operational risk while capturing upside from new drilling.
